Children are particularly vulnerable because their bodies are still developing. They are also much less able to recognise stressful situations and dangers themselves. Early exposure to pollutants increases, among other things, the risk of threatening inflammations of the lower respiratory tract, can impair the development of the brain and also cause allergies in the first place. The development or worsening of mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety disorders and ADHD, have also been linked to air pollution.

In old age, the body reacts more sensitively to external influences. In addition to humidity, carbon dioxide levels and odours, other pollutants also influence well-being and health. In the bedroom, the level of carbon dioxide and water vapour rises sharply overnight. This can lead to an unhealthy climate in the bedroom. Sleep, however, is a time for relaxation and should be as stress-free as possible. Carpets, wooden furniture and other furnishings made of plastic are also often found. In addition to the metabolic product carbon dioxide, gases such as formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide, ozone from electrical appliances or substances such as particulates can accumulate throughout the home. This must be recognised and avoided, e.g. by switching off sources of pollution.
