The Smart City Lab is Leipzig's digital innovation laboratory. Here we explore the potential of digitalization for the sustainable and citizen-friendly development of our city. We see ourselves as an interface between administration, business, science and urban society and are the central point of contact for people interested in digitalization. In particular, we invite our colleagues from the city administration and our partners in the Smart City community to get to know the current projects of the Digital City department.

The Smart City Lab Leipzig combines elements of an exhibition space and event venue to create a meeting place for people who are interested in and feel responsible for innovation and participation within our city. In our interactive exhibition, for example, you can explore urban planning designs with VR glasses, test the latest sensor technology and familiarize yourself with the energy atlas. You will have the opportunity to talk to our experts about questions such as "Where is artificial intelligence being used in the city administration?" and to contribute ideas and give feedback.

The Smart City Lab Leipzig is the central location for digital innovation and sustainable urban development in Leipzig. Digitalization becomes tangible through projects, technologies and ideas that make the city more liveable and sustainable. As an interface between city administration, business, science and urban society, it creates a space for exchange, collaboration and new perspectives.
A key topic: environmental and air quality in urban areas. Modern measuring systems such as the air-Q are used in the lab, allowing visitors to experience live how smart sensor technology records, analyses and visualizes data on air composition. This makes it clear what contribution smart technologies make to health, quality of life and smart city management.
Whether city administration, research or interested private individuals - the Smart City Lab welcomes everyone who wants to help shape Leipzig's digital future.

Kurt-Masur-Schule Leipzig - Cause analysis for temperature problems in summer

Since 2019, the Kurt Mausur School has been struggling with overheated classrooms and insufficient air circulation, especially in the summer months. Teachers and children report concentration problems, headaches and restricted teaching. Temperature problems also occur in winter, with unpleasantly cold rooms at the beginning of the week. The aim of the project is to improve these conditions and find sustainable solutions. find out here how the air-Q can be used in a school to improve indoor air quality.

WellHome - West London Healthy Home and Environment Study

Imperial College London uses the air-Q in several scientific studies on air quality. Here we go into the big WellHome study in which the air quality in households with asthmatic or allergic children is being investigated. The researchers are particularly interested in determining the type of pollutants present, their sources and the interactions between these pollutants and the health conditions of the children. Find out here why the air-Q is an indispensable tool for Imperial College London for researching indoor air quality.
