FAQ air-Q pic

Can the air-Q measure asbestos?

Response:

Asbestos describes fibrous silicate minerals with fiber diameters greater than or equal to two micrometers. It has the property of splitting longitudinally into smaller and smaller fibers when it breaks. Due to its low mass, asbestos is airborne and can be inhaled.

The air-Q's particulates sensor can partially detect asbestos as particulates , as the sensor can detect particles up to 1 µm and above. However, asbestos cannot be distinguished from "normal" particulates . Therefore, the extremely carcinogenic risk of asbestos can only be partially mapped. A high particulates value is always bad. Unfortunately, the air-Q cannot determine whether this is asbestos.
